BIOGRAPHY
I am a Filipino-American. I studied ceramics at the Escuela Massana in Barcelona in the early 1970’s and became an apprentice at a small workshop there. When I returned to the Philippines there were only a few contemporary potters and it was difficult to get equipment and materials. I began researching on indigenous clay and glaze making materials and had my first exhibit in 1978 at a gallery in Manila. I met my wife Tessy at that exhibitand she had studied pottery at University of the Philippines and new School for Social Research in New York. We have worked together for 35 years making mostly functional stoneware and porcelain. In recent years we have experimented with some sculptural forms and we continue to explore the use of local materials.
